Union Pool Brooklyn NYC thanks to Bombonia for filming

लॉन्ग लाइव जेर्री

This video is from a show in a small town in Czech republic. We were touring with Maserati. We love them. Maserati drummer Jerry Fuchs recently passed away in a tragic freak accident. We'll always love you Jerry and we'll always be inspired.

there is also this version which has more visual reference and audio from the board. edited by our good friend kenneth.

Exciting New Shows: Sonic Mayhem Abounds

Ostinato, Witch, Earthless @ DC 9 on Thursday February 26th $10 ------ 9 pm sharp

I just got word this morning that Ostinato will be opening for Witch in Washington, DC. on February 26th. Witch is a fantastic stoner metal band featuring J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. on drums. It is an honor to play with such an inspiring and high caliber band as well as having a chance to share the stage with one of the heros of my stoned adolescent musical awakening.
Our first and likely last Obama-Enthroned DC gig.

Ostinato, Kocho Bi-Sexual and Obi Best @ Union Pool Brooklyn NY on Saturday, February 21st.

Also very exciting is this other currently booked Ostinato U.S. date. Kocho is amazing, tender, weird, floral and danceable, and perhaps even a bit dark. This will oddly be our first and likely last appearance in Brooklyn and hopefully our best showing in NYC. Our last NYC gig at the Cakeshop years ago sucked because the soundguy was nodding out on heroin and ran our whole mix thru a giant vortex of reverb and washiness. As if we don't supply enough of that already.

Bongladesh, Talibam!, Miami Nights, Hard Nips and more @ Death By Audio Brooklyn NY March 1st "year of our lord please help us" $5 or so

This is gonna be a beautiful mess. Our very precocious friend Heidi coaxed Bongladesh out of hibernation. We are playing her Birthday bash with a ton of other rad bands. We swear our next show will be a Stoner Metal Festival on another continent.

Blisstrain Roadshow: March 6 to March 15 Ostinato with Bulbul, We Insist!, Beehover, & the Antikaroshi...Germany mostly...Switzerland and Holland a bit

As a show of solidarity and a celebration of teamwork we'll be showcased with 4 other bands from our excellent German record label: Exile on Mainstream Records, in the format of a travelling roadshow. All bands will collaborate with each other to some extent. We are excited for what these awesome folks can do to fill out or live sound with more layers and waves. See the EOM website or our Myspace page for full schedule.

One Final Awesome Show: Ostinato @ Conne Island, Leipzig with Diario and Bulbul. March 16!!!

Diario are our homeboys. Nicest guys ever and one hell of an amazing band. We love Leipzig. We have played some really great shows there. Conne Island rules! Bring your skateboard, rollerskates or fruitboots for the ramps out back. Bulbul will shred too, on their way home to Vienna.

Review of CSC show at Market Hotel on Jan. 9th 2009

A Funk Carnival at Market Hotel

Carcinogenic Static Carnival funks up Market Hotel. — Photo by John Ruscher

It takes no small effort to put together an 11-person band. There are so many likely scheduling conflicts, so many potential breakdowns in communication. But for Carcinogenic Static Carnival, who played at Market Hotel last Friday, any such problems seemed to have either been deftly avoided or just tossed off in favor the jams.

And part of why Carcinogenic Static Carnival succeeds is because it’s an all-star group of sorts, featuring members of USAISAMONSTER, Talibam, Gwar and more. Their sound is decidedly funkier than those groups, though. An e-mail for the show suggested that the night would feature tunes of Can, James Brown and Sun Ra, but it was better to just soak in the sounds than to try to pinpoint the source of each song.

The group describes themselves as “minimalist funk,” and that’s technically accurate, as each member contributes small, repetitive parts to the larger, rollicking ensemble. But “minimalist” sounds deceiving when it comes to CSC as a whole, because their funk exercises build into quite massive psychedelic avalanches.

Highlights of the night were the five-piece horn section (which included an oboe and baritone horn), the wailing guitar of USAISAMONSTER’s Colin Langenus and impeccable drumming from Matthew Clark. It’ll definitely be worth your time to check these guys out, especially if you are a fan of acts like Sun Ra and Funkadelic or ’70s German krautrock.

2009 Year of the Ox...The Year of the Golden Situation

2009 and the Year of the Ox...The Year of the Golden Situation...In attempts to corral energies, commune with coral, and burn mental copal I'll be using this site as an archive of past sounds as well as a template for present thoughts and a beacon for future happenings.

Carcinogenic Static Carnival three sets at Market Hotel Jan. 9th was smokin'. We finally hit our stride I'd say. Felt light as Mountain Air and heavy as Hematite.

Calling Forth Animal Energies

Tigers within summoned by feedback-drone satori. This is a still I found onliine from Bongladesh's only ever American performance last March at the Market Hotel in Bushwick.
